Weekly recap: The MongolZ place 4th at HLTV Awards, marking a historic year for Mongolia

This week marked another strong chapter for Mongolian esports, highlighted by The MongolZ’s 4th-place finish at the HLTV Awards 2025 and Team Zone’s run in the Swiss Stage of the MLBB World Championship, alongside other developments across Counter-Strike 2, Mobile Legends, PUBG Mobile, and Dota 2.

 

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB)

WAOW GG announce roster changesWAOW GG have officially concluded their journey with their current MLBB women’s roster. The lineup — BEBEX, KAIRIN, RIKKA, MIKEWAZOVSKI, NONAXN, and ESHLY — made history in 2025 as the first Mongolian women’s team to compete at the Esports World Cup (EWC 2025). The organization expressed pride in the team’s international potential and wished all players success in their future careers. A brand-new roster for 2026 has been teased and will be announced soon.

Team Zone advanced at M7 MLBB

Team Zone qualified from the Wild Card stage to the Swiss Stage at the M7 MLBB World Championship. They lost their opening match against Yangon Galacticos but secured progression by defeating Boostgate in the early rounds. The tournament is being broadcast live on ESN – eSports Network’s YouTube channel and PSN4.

 

Counter-Strike 2 (CS2)

Mongolian teams enter Zhi-Tech Elite Masters 2026 qualifiers. The Huns Esports, Chinggis Warriors, and Eruption will compete in the Zhi-Tech Elite Masters 2026: Closed Qualifier (C-Tier) starting January 17. Sixteen teams will play single-elimination matches, with eight teams advancing to the main LAN event.


January 2026 VRS rankings released. The first Valve Regional Standings (VRS) update of 2026 has been published. The rankings will be used to invite teams to four S-Tier tournaments this year.The MongolZ are currently ranked 8th, holding 1,786 VRS points.


Strong Mongolian participation in ESEA Season 56More than 30 Mongolian teams are competing in ESEA Season 56 Open League, a tournament notable for awarding VRS points.


HLTV Awards 2025 – Mongolian Highlights

Mongolia delivered a historic performance at the HLTV Awards 2025, underlining the country’s continued rise in elite Counter-Strike. bLitz was named a finalist in the IGL category, while a coach MAARAA also reached the finalist stage. Individually, 910 finished 27th, and Senzu earned an impressive 13th place in the Top Players rankings. On the team level, The MongolZ were ranked 4th among the world’s Top 10 teams, marking one of the strongest achievements in Mongolian esports history.

Additionally, Senzu is now receiving offers from international teams.

PUBG Mobile (PUBGM)

Champions Esports unveil new rosterChampions Esports have announced their new PUBG Mobile lineup:

  • IGL: Batbagana

  • Fraggers: Atomic, Fearless, Qwerty, Keeno

Batbagana Demo Batkhuyag previously represented IHC Esports and is a PUBGM Global Championship Cup winner, bringing valuable experience to the roster.

 

Dota 2

Team Zeze finish Top 5 at Asia Pacific Predator League 2026Team Zeze represented Mongolia at the Asia Pacific Predator League 2026, finishing in 5th place.
