Smash Rule at PMWC 2025 — How Champions Can Be Decided
1. When it starts:
o The Smash Rule is triggered on Day 3 (Match 13 onwards) of the Grand Finals, after the first 12 matches are completed.
2. How the Match Point threshold is calculated:
o At the end of Match 12, organizers take the top team’s points and add 10 points—this becomes the Match Point required. Example: If the leading team has 115 points, the Match Point is 125.
3. Becoming “Match Point Eligible”:
o Any team that reaches or exceeds this Match Point total during the remaining matches becomes eligible to win via the Smash Rule.
4. How the team wins under this rule:
o Once eligible, the first team to score a WWCD (Winner Winner Chicken Dinner) in matches 13–18 is immediately crowned champion.
5. And if nobody wins by Smash:
o If no eligible team gets a WWCD by the end of Match 18, the team with the highest total points overall becomes the champion in the traditional way.
Why the Smash Rule Matters
· Encourages dynamic reversals: Even teams trailing entering Day 3 have a path to victory by surging and securing a fast WWCD.
· Maintains tension throughout: Every elimination, every placement matters—not just points, but also timing.
· Ensures final day action: The possibility of an immediate title clinch adds drama and keeps viewers on the edge.
